Announcing New Norcal Premier Soccer League Structure - Fall, Winter, Spring and Champions League
Tuesday, 16 June 2009

2009 – 2010 League Structure – Fall, Winter, Spring, Champions League

The Norcal Premier is excited to announce our new league structure for 2009 – 2010 playing year. The league structure is based on examples of top leagues in the United States, such as the Coast Premier and the Dallas Classic League, youth foreign soccer leagues and our own experiences in the Norcal Premier League.

Beginning in Fall 2009, the league will be expanding due to many Clubs exiting CYSA (most competitive Soccer Clubs in Region 6 and Region 5 are competing in US Club Soccer and Norcal Premier Soccer Programs only) and the gradual growth we have experienced in the Fall League over the past few years. This allows us to finally offer a year round league program which will assist Clubs tremendously in the player development process as well as provide players, parents and teams an enjoyable, year round, family friendly schedule.

With this development Norcal Premier will provide teams U14 and above:

•    An older league structure based on a Fall League (for winter/spring playing High School teams)
•    A Winter League(for fall and spring playing High School teams)
•    A Spring Norcal Premier Champion’s League (for teams based on their placement in the Fall or Winter Divisions)
•    A Spring League for those teams who did not compete in the Fall or Winter league.

The new league structure is based on the following important principles:

Structured year round league competition: To allow teams to compete, year round, at the level necessary for their development, based on their age group and ability.

Following The Federation Calendar: Gradually we will adopt the US Soccer Calendar which runs from September to June. We will schedule in a winter break and a summer break from league competition. Obviously, teams may compete in tournaments during this time if their Club thinks that necessary.

Local Competition: To provide necessary competition at as local a level possible, limiting the travel until necessary.

Promotion and relegation: To allow teams to compete at their level based on their results – at appropriate age groups.

Club Soccer Passes: To allow Club Directors and coaches the flexibility necessary to the player development process by using US Club Soccer Passes.

State Wide Competition: Within the younger Premier Divisions and older divisions we have created local competition before premier teams move into the Champions Cup Competition at the end of each season.

Scheduling: Increasingly teams are playing only in Norcal Premier Soccer and US Club Sanctioned Events which allows them to participate in a balanced schedule, spread through out the year, with necessary breaks.

Golden Boot Award: With awards for top scorers in each division

Player Development Program/Id2 scouting: Within the divisions Norcal Premier will be working with their PDP staff, some of whom are also Id2 scouts, to watch the players in the environment they are most comfortable – their team.
