California Odyssey Soccer Club has named Eddie Gonzalez a USSF National A License coach as their new Director of Coaching for the older Girls and Boys Program effective immediately. The hire comes following a reorganization within the club. In his capacity, Gonzalez will be in charge of both programs as the club looks to grow its foothold in the ever-changing landscape of club soccer. “Coach Eddie brings a youthful energy to the leadership here at Odyssey and his extensive collegiate recruiting experience in all major ranks of college soccer will benefit our membership greatly,” says Vitalis Otieno who takes over as the clubs Technical Director.
Gonzalez, a former Odyssey player also played collegiately at Fresno Pacific where he led the team to two NAIA National Championship appearances. He later moved on to play for Club Deportivo Oro in the Mexican Soccer Federation before returning to the area and playing with Fresno Fuego.

In addition to his coaching duties at UOP, Coach Eddie has his NCAA Coaches Recruiting Certification and was responsible for the “Powercats” scouting and recruiting of its Division I players. He coached club soccer at CV Surf in Manteca and was an assistant with Fresno Fuego.

Helping young adults’ transition to the next level in the game is one of Coach Eddie’s passions, supporting his ideology of giving back to the community, and the “game.” His commitment to others is most evident as an ambassador of “Be the Match.” Coach Eddie is a staunch advocate for the bone marrow registry and was blessed with the opportunity to donate his bone marrow last February to a family in need.
